Two More Sleeps

Yep just two more sleeps and its here, then it will be all over for another year!!
I have been trying to get this wall hanging done so that I could have something Christmassy on the wall, its the first time I have done “echo quilting” it’s not perfect but it’s fine for me.  It’s not been in the wash, I will do it after Christmas.
AT LAST!! part of my Christmas Present arrived this morning I am still waiting for a layer cake,  but here is what arrived today.
A book called  “On The Run” by Heather Mulder Peterson, there are  some really lovely table runners/wall hangings in here, and three charm packs……..I can see I am going to be busy next year.

I know I have said this once before, but I am going to say it again (it’s my blog so  I can!) I hope you all have a very very Happy Christmas and Santa brings you  what you asked for.

See you all after the festivities!!

Sam’s New Coat

My lovely friend Diane over at Sideroad stitcher sent me a copy of her pattern for the dog coat she made for Ruby…..(along with some other prezzies too! Thank you Diane) .
To make sure it fit Sam and to see if I needed to make any alterations I cut a practice piece out of an old curtain and tried it on Sam for size…..what do you think !
Just look at his face!!!
He doesn’t seem very happy does he, can’t imagine why, I think the colours really suit him ……. LOL
Don’t worry Sam this isn’t the final version - honest - you are going to get a lovely warm fleece one, we don’t want Ruby upstaging you, now do we!!

Well are you all ready, is all the baking done?????  My freezer is full to the brim if we get snowed in it's not a problem, hey my parents taught me well.   Haven't done a lot of sewing but managed to get two cushion covers made, my first home made Christmas items, and I love them.  Will be doing more I think over the holidays.

Santa has come early for my hubby he now has a playstation 3 so I don't think there will be much talking in our house over Christmas LOL, goodie that means I can go and sit at my sewing machine when he is on the PS - I know how to get what I want - wink wink.

These are just too cute!

Wasn't sure what to do with the antlers, looked through my button box and found some sequins and I think they look okay. Not sure I got his eyebrows right though, he seems to have a crafty look on his face LOL.

Going to have to try and get a santa one made, and then I want to do a wall hanging, and then I want to do a table runner....... errr can we postpone Christmas for a few weeks please!!

The snow hasn't reached us here yet, but looking at the terrible weather in UK at the moment, I don't think we will be long before we see some.

Hope you are all keeping warm and, in case I don't get to blog again

Well....are you all me neither, still got some Christmas cards to write and most of mine are International so I had better get a move on.
This is what we woke up to yesterday morning :-(

Think it's going to be a while before I sit on any of these!!  The snow is still here and it's -4c and the forecast for this afternoon is 2c wow can hardly wait!!

We managed to lock ourselves in this morning, (okay so it wasn't "we" it was me).  I shut the kitchen door with a little more force than normal (no I wasn't cross with anyone) and the inside handle suddenly just spun round and round!!  Oh No!!  So there we were stuck on the inside with the wood on the outside and we needed some for the fire.....luckily we have another outside door in the study so hubby sent me out into the freezing cold (I know! why couldn't he go) to see if we could open the door from the outside - yes we could phew.   It was the metal rod thingy that goes from one handle to the wasn't long enough .... so as I had slammed closed the door the rod had shot through to one side and there was nothing in the inside handle to open the door!  Opps!!  So had to dismantle and "make do and mend" until we can go out and get a longer rod thingy......We were just thankful that (a) the porch door was already unlocked so we could get to said kitchen door and (b) it hadn't happened as we were going out otherwise we wouldn't have been able to unscrew the handle as (for obvious reasons) there are no screws to remove the handle on the outside.....are you all following this!?!?!?!?    I wouldn't mind but this is a brand new door we only bought it July this would think they could get the handles right wouldn't you.    And all this before breakfast too!

Had a go at making mug rugs this week, they seem to have taken me forever, maybe I am being too careful with them, I don't know, after all.......they are only going to get tea/coffee stains all over them!!
    and also in red
    Have a good weekend

I Promise I will stop posting about Sam after this.......

Woo Hoo, Sam's examination has shown that his lymph nodes are NORMAL YEEHA.  The vet said we could do one more test if we wanted to make absolutely sure, its a biopsy, but it's a very specialised technique, they can't do it, we would have to go to Limoges, its very stressful for the dog and very painful.......we said no.  Sam has not shown any symptoms through out all of this, he has been his usual happy little self, eating and drinking as normal, we think he has gone through enough for now so, unless he shows any signs of the cancer returning we are leaving well alone.  Now to get back to a normal life.  Thank you all so much for your support whilst we have gone through this, our dogs are like the children we never had, we love them to bits and  can't bear the thought of them being in any pain.

I promise from now on this blog will get back on track and I will be showing off my quilting!!

Lots of Hugs to all my lovely friends

WOO HOO Sharing some good news

Some good news for a change, we have won the Euro Millions lottery.......okay okay  before you all start sending me begging letters, it was only 3 numbers , so the total sum of my winnings is 11.50 Euros.   Hey, I don't care I will take all the good luck I can get at the moment.

Have finished my two Christmas table runners today, still not sure where they are going, or if I am keeping one for myself.

and the other one......

Also tried my hand at applique, never done it before but I was waiting for my Christmas material to arrive before I could finish the table runners,  decided to have a go, this is a cushion cover I did to see if I liked doing it
and here is a wall hanging I have just finished, really enjoyed doing it except for the stems, which has probably taught me I don't like doing fiddly things so will stick to large object when I do my next one.

The second picture shows 2 of my "firsts" the other is the first cross stitch I ever did, it needs putting in a larger frame but I was sick of having it lying around so put it in this one, I now have a larger frame, just haven't got around to doing it's on the "to do" list!!!

This will be short and sweet, but alot of you ask me for updates on Sam.  We have been to vets this afternoon for the results and it wasn't the good news I was hoping for, the tumour was malignant.  The lab said the vet had got all the mass out but we don't know if the cancer has spread or not.  The vet suggested we should have him castrated as it's the hormones that feed the cancer, so he is back in on Monday for another op.  He tried to reassure me that Sam was not dying just yet....but as anyone with a much loved animal will tell you that didn't make me feel any better.  He is also going to do a rectal exam on Sam whilst he is under to see if his lymph nodes are enlarged - if they are the cancer has spread.  It's going to be a long weekend, think Sam isn't going to be the only one that needs lots of hugs........

Lest We Forget….

As yesterday was Armistice Day/Remembrance Day/Veterans Day, and I haven’t got any quilty news for you, I thought you may be interested in a little place about 15 minutes away from us.

Hubby's Dad at Oradour sur Glane 2005

Oradour sur Glane was just an ordinary little village going about it’s business on that fateful day in 1944.  We always take our visitors here, and everyone of them comes away deeply moved, Oradour has been left exactly as it was on that day as a memorial to the hundreds who died ……here is a link to the story……

Bonjour! From a Very Wet and Very Windy France

Brrr today is awful, blowing a gale, lashing it down with rain and its cold. Lady though loves it, she stands outside with the wind blowing on her and doesn’t care if it’s raining or not.
Sam has been to the vets this morning and has had 4 of his stitches taken out, I remembered to ask vet how many he had in…11!!  Blimey I hadn’t realised there were so many.  We are back again on Wednesday for some more to be taken out. The lump on his back has gone down too, so no more tablets for 48 hours and see how that goes.  All in all good news for Sam.
I have finished the coral/floral table runner, the binding on the corners took me ages to do, not sure if it’s because they are not a 90 degree angle.

I decided in the end to bind using the same coral fabric, as anything else took your eyes away from the panel in the middle.  I did FMQ on the middle bit, and stitch in the ditch around the rest.

And for the back I used the same large floral as the panel on the front.

We had planned to go shopping today but with the weather being so awful it will just have to wait until later in the week, really hope it is better where you are.  Have a good Monday.

Giveaway time again (again!)

Phew don’t know about you but I can’t keep up with all these giveaways.
Stitchbird is having a Birthday Giveaway and there are some lovely things to win…off you go then…what are you waiting for. Good Luck everyone

It’s Christmas in 50 Days!

Ha - bet that got you all sat up and thinking.  Can you believe it, where on earth has this year gone to….actually where has the last 10 years gone.   So thought I had better get on with some Christmas things.  As I don’t know whether these are staying with me or going as presents, I can only show you  little bits – don’t want to spoil someone’s surprise.
Haven’t quite finished this one yet, waiting for some red ribbon and some snowflake buttons to sew on

This one is finished ready to quilt.
Now need to buy some nice Christmas material for the backs.

A little update on Sam as so many of you have emailed to ask how he is.  At the moment he is doing really really well, his wound is healing nicely.  The lump on his back has reduced slightly so he has some more anti-inflams until Monday.  Hopefully the first of the stitches will be taken out on Monday too.  He says thank you all so much for your kind thoughts, hugs and prayers for him, we all appreciate it very much.
Sorry pic not too good!
Hope you all have a lovely weekend.

Sammy Update

First of all thank you so much for the many posts and email I have received wishing Sam well after his op, I really appreciate them all.
We have been to the vets this morning and his wound is healing nicely.  The catheter has now been taken out.  Had a little scare as a lump has appeared on Sam’s back, it came up suddenly so I half suspected it would be a reaction to something to do with the op.  The vet checked him this morning and it is some sort of reaction, he gave us a three day course of anti-inflammatory tablets and we go back again on Friday.  If the lump has gone down by then, all well and good, if not he will have to do a small cut and drain it, but he assured us it wasn’t another tumour…….phew.
The tumour has been sent off for analysis today and we are 50 Euros lighter in our bank account,  this is just for the test, we haven't got a bill from the vets yet.
And I am pleased to report he isn’t incontinent (Sam that is, not the vet!)
Not much sewing has been done in the last few days,  we take the “bucket” off him and give him lots of cuddles, so nothing else is getting done.
He has been such a good patient, he takes his tablets without a problem, comes to us for the “bucket” to be put back on even though he doesn’t like it, and today when  the catheter was taken out, and the plaster taken off he cried, but then immediately started wagging his tail again at the vet and all the nurses……he is a little trouper –  My Little Man.

A Finish and An Anxious Wait

Drum roll please, the quilt is finished, YEAH!!

Here is a little look

Oh my, look at those hearts, I haven’t done hearts before

Okay so I am only showing you the best bits, I’m not that stupid!!!

Here is me trying to look all professional but it was so windy had to give up in the end, the line kept moving in the wind every time I tried to take a picture.

So had to resort to my better half (well so he keeps telling me) holding the quilt for me.  This was the best picture I could get in the house.  I did it with Moda Civil War Crossings 2 charm packs and as there wasn’t quite enough I added a few prints from my stash , did you hear that “my stash” LOL my stash being one drawer of fabric, but it sounded good didn’t it!!!

And the anxious wait?     My little man has had an operation this morning, to remove 2 tumours that were coming out of his bottom (eewww I know) we took him this morning at 8.30am and had to stay with him while the nurse gave him a pre-med as he was so stressed (him and me both!!) he cried and cried and cried when she put the needle in (oh okay I will admit it…..him and me both!!).  Pleased to say he is back home now, still a bit drowsy and wobbly.  We aren’t out of the woods yet, the tumour has been sent off for analysis and the operation could make him incontinent – only time will tell, fingers and everything else crossed that he is okay.  So, now he is back with me safe and sound I can get on with some sewing.

Here he is looking very sorry for himself.  “Oh Mum how could you do this to me!”

Lady is keeping well  away from him with that “bucket" on his head, I don’t blame her, it’s really painful when he hits you with it!!

That’s it for today from a mild, sunny but very windy little corner of France.

Makin’ New Friends

Today I received a couple of charm packs through the post, I sent for these before I started this blog, to make something Christmassy……… appropriate that I chose this one  called “Makin’ New Friends”  by Deb Strain for Moda – little did I know!

Also want to say a special “Thank You” to one of my new friends,  Diane at Sideroad Stitcher who has helped me and encouraged me to start this blog (hope I have got the link right Diane!),  she has also blogged about me, so thanks to her, I am not talking to myself anymore!!  Thank you Diane x

A Cold and Frosty Morning

Brr it was cold this morning, so what to do today, oh I know sewing.  I know I said I was going to finish my quilt, and I did do a little bit more of the binding but......there was this material that was just calling out to me

It kept saying to me "make a table runner out of me"  so how could I refuse!

Here is the (nearly) finished runner, the corners need cutting off then it needs quilting and binding (oh no, not more binding).

Not sure what to do about the backing but think I am going to use the same coral and maybe use one of the flower patterns for the binding.

My First Post!

Well I've done it....never done a blog before but.... here goes.  Just hope I have something interesting to tell everybody!  I have only been quilting for around 6 months so I am very much a newbie and learning everyday so this blog won't be a place to learn new techniques etc, but perhaps other newbies may like to drop by and we can share our ups and downs, and if nobody drops by I guess I can bribe my family and friends to become followers LOL.

I am just adding the binding to my second quilt, will post a pic when it's done - oh that's if I can work out how to do it on here......

Got to go hubby just brought some sweeties in and he will eat them all if I don't take some off him!

Bye for now
